Spell Training

The key to being at the top of our profession is planning. We must plan years ahead of our advancement so that we acquire the appropriate spells and abilities at the most appropriate time.

It is conventional wisdom what dictates that conventional wizards train up the wizard circle every training, and chose between the major and minor elemental circles for their secondary abilities. An unconventional wizard, I -- I have found that more creative training brings many advantages.

Zanoverian wizard spell training identifies the important spells which the wizard will use as soon as he or she acquires them. The important spells are targeted so that the wizard is able to use them as soon as they can.

We want minor shock (901) by level 1. We want minor water (903) and personal blur (503) by level 3. We want brights (406) by level 6 and minor fire very soon after 6. As Volners, we need access to the graveyard so we need the unlock spell (407) as quickly as possible to get us through the gate.

The next most important spell is the one that beefs up our attack strength. That is elemental focus (513) which we want at level 13. And the key to everything is the wizard shield spell (919) which we want at level 19 so that we can finally start hunting something undead other than wraiths.

We probably want to play with a familiar (920) when we title. The next important spell is the cone of lightning (518). I know you want to learn to enchant at level 25, but enchantment is not really a very practical spell until we reach the age of about 30. So I suggest that we target enchantment (925) for age 30, and otherwise target the top of the minor elemental spells, elemental targeting (425) and barrier (430). These last two spells improve as we move up the minor elementals list until we hit ages 70 and 75, when they both max out at +50.

Here we can cast guards (414) on ourselves. No more waiting around for massies. At this age, we are ready to start triple training every third training. To do this, we have to accumulate 27 physical skills training points for two trainings, and then do our triple-train.

Congratulations! You are 30 trainings old. You are an enchanter (925), and you are an embedder (420) as well! Now we can pick up a bit of steam. We want to acquire minor elemental barrier (430) as quickly as possible, so we are triple training every other training now. We do that by putting back 40 physical training points per level. Luckily, it's time to triple-train at 31 anyway.

We will continue to train once per level in the minor elemental circle for the foreseeable future. We need to slow down our spell training though. Combat maneuvers is going to be important to us eventually, and that's going to take a lot of the training points we've been banking for spells.

If we've trained in mana share up to 120, we are now able to sense the amount of mana in a mana pool for enchantments. You can now take the major circle up to meteor storm, or keep going with the wizard circle.

We slowed down to a double-train at level 47 to get our climbing, swimming, and lock popping skills honed. You're just about to legend.
