Zanovere Wizard Guide

Casting Mass Spells

The most important spell in all of the lands is the Mass Elemental Defense spell, 419. This spell can simultaneously boost the defense of any number of adventurers joined to the caster by 25 in both natural defense, DS, and warding defense, TD. Two other spells, Mass Blurs 911 and Natural Colors, are also mass spells which add 10 to your natural defense.

Mass Elemental Defense 419 and Mass Blur 911 are both available to wizards for casting. In fact Mass Blur can only be cast by a wizard. Natural Colors can only be cast by a ranger. It is not a high priority for you to gain the ability to cast these spells, because they are readily available for your use from friendly elder casters such as I.

Travel to the park south of Town Square Southwest in Wehnimer Landing or to Town Central in Ice Mule Trace or North Market in Solhaven to receive mass spells or to cast them. When you cast, casting around three and a half hours of mass spells. It takes a lot of mana to do that, much of which will come to you from those whom you well be casting to. Do not attempt to cast without a minimum mana share skill of around 70%, and only then with a channeler who's share is well over 100%.

Mass Spell Etiquette

There are some simple rules to live by when casting massies.

  1. Wait until other casters are finished before you do anything.
  2. Wait until you know that your spell was not already cast recently.
  3. Announce your intention to cast.
  4. Ask for a channeler if your mana share is less than 90% or so.
  5. Give statistics on your spell. Tell adventurers how many times you intend to cast, how many minutes each cast will last, and tell them what your mana share is.
  6. Cast the spell.
  7. Announce that you are finished.
  8. Thank those who sent mana to you.

Never simply walk into a room and announce that you are casting mass spells. Watch for 30 seconds or so to see if any groups get blurry, or become surrounded in a brilliant luminescence, or blend into their surroundings better. And watch for recitations asking for mana.

Listen to what the adventurers are asking for. If you are casting blurs and they want colors, see if a ranger offers to cast colors. It is possible that someone just got finished casting blurs, and the vast majority of adventurers in the room are wanting a mass spell other than blurs. Few folks will join you and fewer still will send you mana. It can take a very long while to finish if you're not getting any help with mana. After a few minutes, go ahead and cast. Enough will have entered the room that your spell will be welcome again.

Open your group status.

Announce that you are casting a certain spell. In Wehnimer Landing, you can do this just within the room. Massies are frequent enough there that they are expected. In Ice Mule Trace or Solhaven, you should first announce on the amunet and on the Voln net and then give folks a minute or two to enter the room. Massie casters are much less frequent in those towns.

Once you announce within the room, allow adventurers time to join you. Announce more than once. At this point, I smile and perform my signature triple flip, demonstrating my perfect dexterity and reflexes. Display your casting statistics for the spell. Make one last announcement indicating that you are starting to cast. Prep the spell, and then wait a second or two before casting it. This allows more adventurers time to join.

Mass blurs last thirty seconds per level of the caster. Compute how long your spell duration is by dividing your level by two. That's how many minutes one cast of mass blurs will last. Include the half-minute if you're of an odd age. To figure how many times to cast, divide three and a half hours, 210 minutes, by your duration per spell in minutes and round up.

For example, I am a 23rd level wizard casting blurs. Each spell will last for 11 1/2 minutes. Take 210 minutes divided by 11.5. You get 18.26... casts to equal 3 and 1/2 hours. Round up to 19 casts.

So whenever you cast mass blurs at age 23, you will cast 19 times at 11.5 minutes per cast for a total of 218.5 minutes or 3 hours, 38 minutes. Use the recite verb to announce.

   Zanovere recites:

   Mass Blurs
   11.5 minutes per cast
Casting 19 times for 3 hours 38 minutes
   93% share

Count your casts! Do not let anything interrupt your count. Do not answer any whispers until you have finished casting. Keep a tally sheet of how many casts you've made so far. When you are finished, disband your group. Then announce the cumulative duration of the spells in hours and minutes, not just minutes. Thank your senders.

   Zanovere recites:

   That was 3 1/2 hours.
   Thank you senders.

Use command line scripts, and edit the numbers every time you train. I always make it a point to cast mass spells whenever I enter a major town, whenever I am raised from the dead, and whenever I train to a new level.

Performing Mass Spells

I don't just cast massies. I perform them.

Zanovere recites:

     Leaping Lord Zanovere Blurs!
     Join up!

Zanovere smiles and takes a short hop, running at blazing speed.
Zanovere tumbles hand over foot over hand over foot, launching
himself high into the air, spinning one... two... three revolutions,
landing his long lean lanky legs squarely on the turf!

Zanovere drops some coins.

Zanovere smiles and bows in each of four separate directions.

Zanovere recites:

     Don't try this at home.
