12/15/00 - Majordomo is being discontinued and replaced with a
new web-based maillist subscription program. Those with existing majordomo lists at
this time will still be allowed to use them. Absolutely no new majordomo lists will
be created. The new lists will be available upon request by 12/25/00 and more
information will be posted as well as an update to the User Manuel regarding the new
lists. One free per domain name will be provided. We are excited about this
new feature as subscribers will be able to subscribe and unsubscribe through your web
site.
8/1/00 - Most accounts have been upgraded and now require ssh
telnet in order to achieve shell access. You can download a ssh client free from the
resources at www.freessh.org.
If you cannot connect in telnet this is likely the situation. All accounts will
eventually have shell access only through a ssh connection for security purposes.
3/1/00 - Prentice Internet is extremely proud to announce we can
now register new domain names for $25.00. This replaces the former fee to Network
Solutions (the InterNIC). You must register your new domain name with us to receive
the special price.
2/1/00 - Prentice Internet is proud to announce the addition of
100 meg plans.
1/1/00 - Y2K has gone extremely smooth for everyone. Some
glitches have been noticed with scripts that are not Y2K compliant. We advise all
customers to look for scripts that clearly state they are Y2K compliant.
9/25/99 - If you are a customer who signed up after September
25, 1999, instead of regular telnet, you will need to use SSH (Secure Shell). SSH is a
secure version of the telnet application that encrypts the session so that others cannot
attempt to listen in on the session. This improves the security because password is never
sent in the clear. Hence, we are transitioning away from allowing telnet sessions
and toward using ssh. This means that you need to get SSH client software on your local
machine. Please visit the Online Manual in the Telnet section for recommended
software. Accounts requiring SSH will have a SSH Web-Based interface available in
your Telnet directory. |
